Acura RSX Shifter Bushing Installation

Tools Required

  • 3/8 Ratchet with 6" extension
  • 12mm socket
  • Phillips Screwdriver
  • Flat head screwdriver
  • Stubby Phillips head screwdriver
  • Needle nose pliers
  • Electrical or masking tape

Step One

Remove the shift knob.

Step Two

Remove the shift boot console. You need to pull up really hard on the edge at the cup holders.

Step Three

Remove the rear screws of the center console located in the back seat.

Step Four

Remove the cigarette lighter panel by using a small screw driver.

Tip: Tape up the end of the screw driver to prevent any damage to the plastic.

Step Five

Using a stubby screw driver, remove the two plastic screws in the middle of the console.

Step Six

Pull both front corners of the console until the clips are released.

Step Seven

At the back of the console, you need to disconnect the rear power outlet. It is a little hard to pull off the first time, but keep pulling, it will come off. You might want to wear gloves to prevent cutting your hand.

Step Eight

Remove the center console by lifting up from the back first. It should slide out pretty easily. It is the easiest to move it to the back of the car and place it in the back seat.

Step Nine

Remove the sound deadening foam. Remove the two pins holding in the two cables using the needle nose pliers. Remove the metal clip by prying upwards while the black plastic holder on the left must be turned counter clockwise until it slides out (this will give you resistance, just keep turning). Then Remove the four screws holding in the shifter.

Step Ten

Remove the shifter from the car.

Step Eleven

Remove the rubber bushings from the stock shifter. Use needle nose pliers to push the rubber bushings out. This step can be skipped if installing aftermarket shift kit.

Step Twelve

Place the metal bushings over the stock mounting holes and reinstall the shifter following steps 1 thru 10 in reverse order.

Tip

Place a little tape over the metal bracket to keep it from rattling.
