The Turbosmart TS-1-7880C-VR096E TS-1 7880 Performance Turbocharger is engineered for serious high-horsepower applications that demand exceptional airflow without sacrificing transient response. This specific configuration combines a 78mm compressor inducer, 80mm turbine exducer, reverse-rotation design, 0.96 A/R turbine housing, V-band inlet and outlet, and external wastegate configuration. Turbosmart rates the 7880 at approximately 1,140–1,350 horsepower, making it an excellent choice for competition and extreme-performance builds.
Turbosmart developed the TS-1 series around the concept of making its turbochargers smaller, lighter, and faster-responding through modern materials, advanced aerodynamics, and reduced rotating mass. A proprietary dual ceramic bearing system works with an aggressive 7+7 2618 aluminum splitter-style compressor wheel to deliver rapid transient response while maintaining the airflow required at high engine loads.
On the turbine side, Turbosmart utilizes a lightweight 310S stainless-steel investment-cast turbine housing and a 713C Inconel turbine wheel designed to withstand extreme exhaust gas temperatures. CFD-developed housings are optimized for airflow and reduced backpressure, while every turbocharger is VSR speed-balanced to support smooth operation and durability at the extreme shaft speeds encountered in high-performance applications.

Reverse-Rotation 7880 Configuration
- The TS-1-7880C-VR096E is specifically Turbosmart's reverse-rotation version of the TS-1 7880. Reverse-rotation turbochargers can be particularly useful when designing custom engine bays, mirrored twin-turbo systems, or installations where conventional compressor and turbine orientation creates packaging challenges.
- This model should not be confused with the standard-rotation TS-1 7880 variants. Turbosmart offers the 7880 with T4 and standard V-band turbine housings as well, while TS-1-7880C-VR096E specifically identifies the reverse-rotation, 3-inch V-band inlet, 0.96 A/R, externally wastegated configuration.
High-Horsepower Performance with Fast Response
- Rather than focusing exclusively on maximum peak airflow, Turbosmart engineered the TS-1 series as a complete aerodynamic system. The lightweight bearing and shaft assembly is paired with aggressive compressor aerodynamics and a high-performance turbine wheel to help the turbocharger accelerate quickly while still maintaining airflow under high engine load.
- With a manufacturer-listed 1,140–1,350 HP operating range, the TS-1 7880 is aimed squarely at serious high-output combinations. Actual achievable horsepower and spool characteristics will depend on engine displacement, fuel, cylinder-head airflow, exhaust manifold design, boost pressure, intercooling, tuning, and the rest of the turbo system.
V-Band External-Wastegate Design
- This version utilizes a 3.00-inch V-band turbine inlet and 3.50-inch V-band turbine outlet, providing a clean and secure connection for a properly fabricated exhaust manifold and downpipe. Its externally wastegated configuration allows the builder to select the appropriate external wastegate—or multiple wastegates—based on the engine's displacement, boost target, exhaust flow, and manifold configuration.
- Turbosmart also supplies the turbocharger with the corresponding inlet and outlet weld flanges and V-band clamps, reducing the number of specialty components that need to be sourced separately during fabrication.
The Turbosmart TS-1-7880C-VR096E TS-1 7880 is an excellent foundation for a no-compromise turbo system where four-digit horsepower capability, reverse-rotation packaging, V-band installation, high-temperature durability, and rapid transient response are all priorities.
