Designed for use with SPAL fan shrouds and custom cooling-system installations, this simple but effective vent flap allows additional ram air to pass through the shroud when the electric fan is not operating, helping reduce the airflow restriction that a full-coverage fan shroud can create at vehicle speed.
When the vehicle is moving and the electric fan is off, airflow pressure pushes the flexible rubber flap open, allowing air to flow through the radiator and through the shroud opening. Once the electric fan switches on, the fan's suction pulls the flap closed. This helps prevent the fan from drawing air through the vent opening instead of through the radiator core.
The SPAL 30130012 is manufactured from flexible black rubber and can be used as a replacement flap on compatible SPAL assemblies or incorporated into a fabricated fan shroud.

How It Works
- A full-coverage fan shroud can improve low-speed and stationary cooling by allowing the electric fan to draw air across a larger portion of the radiator core. At higher vehicle speeds, however, solid areas of the shroud can restrict natural airflow.
- The SPAL 30130012 functions as a simple one-way air door. As the vehicle moves forward, incoming air passing through the radiator pushes the flap open, providing an additional path through the fan shroud.
- When the electric fan activates, negative pressure behind the radiator pulls the flap closed. This forces the fan to draw more of its air through the radiator core, rather than through the shroud vent.
Replacement & Custom Applications
- The SPAL 30130012 is an excellent choice for replacing a damaged or missing flap on a compatible SPAL fan shroud. It can also be incorporated into custom-built radiator shrouds where additional high-speed airflow is desired.
