Winning Combination
Jjon Chorney | November 14th, 2008
After 46,000 miles on my 2006 RSX, I was facing a vacation trip and decided to replace the front brakes. This is my third RSX and I hoped for the same positive results I had realized when I replaced the OEM brakes on the other two cars. My driving combines highway and city mileage. I drive with some enthusiasm, but also with care. After speaking with the good folks at Club RSX, I settled on the Power Slot Rotors and the Hawk HPS Brake Pads. Customer service was top notch and the parts quickly arrived as promised. My mechanic put them on and I was ready to roll. After a little more than 2400 highway and city miles, I am convinced that I made an excellent decision. Hard stops at highway speeds, through wet and dry, I found the braking distance to be significantly shorter while maintaining a great sense of control. This meant that, unlike with the OEM brakes, wheel lockup wasn't nearly so much of an issue when things got really tight. I could decelerate as needed without any drama. While it's still early days, I do notice also that, after a rainy night, I no longer have a palpable roughness for the first few miles until the rust is scraped off. I was told by Club RSX that the Power Slots were good in this respect and they were, as with everything else, right on the money. The Hawks show no great propensity for dusting, while still providing very good stopping power. This is also appreciated. The new combination allows me to take full advantage of the stopping power of the AVID TRZ's I put on the car 6 months ago, when I had had enough of the greatly overrated Michelin Pilot's that came with the car. I can unhesitatingly recommend this combination for anyone looking for a reasonably priced, significant upgrade to the OEM set and strongly feel that Club RSX is the place to buy from.
